Last Aprils roll-out of Google’s mobile-friendly algorithm has significantly impacted website rankings in mobile search results. Are you prepared?
Now it’s 2016 and the mobile search algorithm is the biggest Google search algorithm update in years. Your site MUST be mobile ready.
Like it or not, if you are not showing up on the first page of Google (especially on mobile phones), you are probably losing new business opportunities every day. With more than 300 million searches a day, it’s likely that someone is looking for your business as you read this. Can customers find you or do they find your competitor?
You might be surprised at how many people are using their computers to find local businesses and services and not the Yellow Pages . Google has said that 73% of all internet searches are now local search related.
If you are a painter in Bobcaygeon or Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Buckhorn, etc (whatever city you used) …can customers find you or did they find your competitor? Look at the search above. The top 3 positions are Dunsford, Minden and Haliburton. But your customer wants Bobcaygeon!
So the question is….
Can Customers Find You
Okay, lets try this. Let’s type in bobcaygeon painters in the Google search bar.
Are you an electrician, plumber, landscaper, roofer, auto mechanic, handyman, do you sell boats or cars, install doors and windows, dig wells, etc? Can customers find you? How much is a new customer worth to you and your business? $100, $500, $1000 or more! Let’s find them for you.
Can customers find you…. because customers are definitely looking for you.
Your new customers do NOT know you; do not know where you are; and do not know the services your offer. Did you know that 73% of people now are turning away from the Yellow Pages and going to the internet to find local businesses.
They are typing what they are looking for in the search bar. They go to Google, Yahoo or Bing search engines. More likely Google. They type in the product (painting, auto repair, lawyer, landscaping, plumbers, electrician, etc.) and service they are looking for along with the city or town they are in. If they don’t use the town or city name they will never find anything close by. So most people are now using the “local” city or town along with the product or service they are seeking.
A gold mind for savvy businesses.
You NEW customer may be in another city and want to know where to go, what shops are available, where the schools are, where is the closest shoe store, mechanic, painter, plumber, landscaper for when they get to your town! Can your customers find you?
I am going to use pizza as the example here but you can do this with any product or service.
Let’s say I live in Lindsay and I am hungry and want a pizza. Or maybe I just moved in the area and haven’t a clue where a pizza place is. I want two or three pizzas because I have family and friends over. (The population in Lindsay is about 33,000 in the winter to about 50,000 or so in the summer by comparison, the population of Toronto is around 3 million). Maybe my old pizza place went out of business or maybe I want to try another pizza place.
So how do I find your pizza place? I go to Google and like the example above (Bobcaygeon painters) I type in Lindsay pizza. Did I find you? Yes/No! Go to Google right now and see if you are there. Probably not. But some competitors are there aren’t they?
What if YOU held TOP SPOT for that search? What if YOU got the order instead of your competitor? You would have increased your bottom (the life blood of your business) with two or three orders that you may never have known about!
How do you know how many people are looking for you? Here’s how!
I won’t actually use my keyword tool, but I will use a very well known application, the Google keyword tool. This tool is VERY helpful. You can access it by clicking here:
Let’s determine how many people in Lindsay are using their computers to find a pizza restaurant, go the the Google Keyword Tool above and enter a search for: lindsay pizza
The Google keyword tool will provide results based on the last month. You can try pizza in lindsay, pizza restaurant in lindsay as long as lindsay (or your local town/city) is in the search.
According to Google, last month 1,600 people searched for “lindsay pizza” on Google. That’s 53 people a day looking for pizza! AND this is a small city! Bobcaygeon is a little smaller and no local “bobcaygeon pizza” searches YET! But don’t let it slip by.
Okay, just for kicks type… toronto pizza
Wow! A whopping 74,000 people have typed toronto pizza. That is 2,400 people a day want pizza in Toronto. Notice that this search beats out pizza nova and mamas pizza?
